Robert "Bob" White is a recurring character in Doug. In the Nickelodeon series, he is the mayor of Bluffington. In the Disney series he becomes the principal of Beebe Bluff Middle School.

Background[]

His catch phrase is, "Vote for me!", which he says every time he gives a speech. Mayor White is a happy and friendly man, but is notoriously unhelpful, in terms of helping the town of Bluffington. He is more interested in telling others to vote for him, rather than giving them legitimate reasons for his election. As an example, after showing his plan to "beautify Bluffington", citizens complained of trash and pollution, which only made the situation worse. He openly hates people who he knows did not vote for him. Once, he (oddly and unfairly) fired the school's teacher, Ms. Krystal, when his son said she did not vote for him in the last election. (Realistically, a principal cannot fire a teacher, only the school board can.)

Bud Dink's wife, Tippi, replaces him as mayor in "Doug Runs". He went on to become the principal of Beebe Bluff Middle School. However, that did not stop him from trying to become re-elected, which ultimately did not happen.

Personality[]

Perhaps because of his former position as mayor, Bob is obsessed with being a popular figure, to the point where he even signs letters with the post-script reading his catchphrase. He has also shown himself to be of little use during difficult situations, and has a tendency to blame others for his issues. For example, when the ice cream factory went into meltdown, Bob blamed Doug in front of the news reporters, unaware of the fact that Doug had just saved the factory. However, he does willingly praise those who have come to his assistance, as is shown when he learns about Doug's heroic actions.

Appearance[]

Bob has a darker skin color, almost like Patti Mayonnaise, and has white hair (or possibly a wig, as it has been shown to fly off his head anyway). He wears a blue suit with a red tie and black dress shoes.

Family[]

Although it is never discovered until later in the series ("Doug Runs"), Willie White, a member of Roger's gang, is his son. Despite being from a political background, Willy made a bad choice in judgement of hanging with Roger and his gang. Willy and Robert get along well, as he funded his campaign platform at school, while trying to maintain his own platform against Tippi Dink (in which they both lost).

Apparently, his wife makes all the mayoral decisions, which gives Robert the appearance of a timid, indecisive mayor. Whenever there is a crisis, he knows his wife will get him out of it, as seen in "Doug, Mayor for a Day".

There are many other paintings in Robert's office, presumably of past mayors. They all have a similar appearance to him, so it's possible they're his ancestors.

Trivia[]

  • His voice is similar to former U.S. President George H. W. Bush, the father of George W. Bush.
  • In "Doug's Secret Song", it is shown he is a member of the Yodeler's Society of Bluffington.
  • His voice actor was Greg Lee, who was the host of the PBS game show, Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?.
